This Independent Learning Packet for Special Education focuses on reading and language skills most often addressed through IEP Goals for readers in late Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade (below reading grade level), as well as students receiving intervention within these instructional levels.

WHAT IS AN INDEPENDENT LEARNING PACKET?

An INDEPENDENT LEARNING PACKET includes 30 engaging worksheets or printables for students to complete with a greater level of independence both in the classroom, or at home for distance learning, or homework to practice learned skills.

These worksheets include:

Pages 1-5: WHO? A picture to color and once sentence stating “who” the person is. There is a lined portion for the student to copy the word or sentence.

Pages 6-10: WHAT? A picture to color with a sentence stating what the object/noun is. There is a lined portion for the student to copy the word or sentence.

Pages 11-15: WHERE? A picture of a place or setting to color and once sentence to answer “Where?” There is a lined portion for the student to copy the word or sentence.

Pages 16-20: WHEN? A picture of a season or time to color and one sentence stating what the season or time is. There is a lined portion for the student to copy the word or sentence.

Pages 21-25: WHY? A picture to color and a question and sentence response answers “why”? Since the concept of “why” can be challenging, a visual cue has been provided by underlining the main response word. Student may copy the word or sentence on the lines provided.

Pages 26-30: HOW? A picture to color and a question asking, “How…” with a visually guided sentence response. Student may copy the word or sentence response.


· Student will read and use the pictures provided to answer “Wh” questions. This worksheet set is a PRINT and GO activity with NO ASSEMBLY NEEDED. It helps students remain engaged and focused on an academic task for a longer period of time.

(1.) Given a “Wh” question who/what/where/when/why/how and a picture with a statement, STUDENT will write the word or sentence response, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.


(2.) Given a “Wh” question asking “How did this happen?”, STUDENT will provide a reasonable explanation of how the event occurred, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.


(3.) Given a “Wh” question related to a picture who, what, where, when, why, how, STUDENT will provide a response using the picture and visual guided response, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
