More details

Building a sentence (sentence building) with one noun and one verb using real life pictures that show a sequence of events, has proven to be a highly effective reading strategy for visual learners, autism, and students with special learning needs. This is SET# 1 of our “Task Box Filler” selection of Sentence Building with Picture Noun and Verb Task Cards and is a simpler version of our AUTISM AND SPECIAL EDUCATION VISUAL SENTENCE BUILDING interactive Sentence Building! If your students enjoyed that, just imagine what they can do with this sentence building set with a greater level of independence (AND it's a cinch for you, the teacher, to put together!).

WILL THIS TAKE A LOT OF PREP TIME?

Oh, no! Just print the pages (4 cards to a page), laminate, trim. A small amount of velcro is required for students to “build” the sentence. Placement of the where the velcro goes, is clearly labeled for you.

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

· 24 Task Cards (12 sets) for Sentence Building

· Verbs: sits, waves, bakes, sings, rides, pops, packs, tops, writes, rings, swims, grows

· Simple picture directions for easy set up.

· Suggested IEP Goals for Special Education students

· Print this entire activity on white card stock paper and laminate for durability that will last many years.

HOW WILL MY STUDENTS USE THIS AS A READING STRATEGY?

Your students will be highly engaged building sentences using pictures and words that show a sequence of an event. Early readers, or even children not yet on their way to reading, will be able to use the pictures to help them read! Just watch how proud your students are as they read each sentence! ALSO, there are TWO sets using the same verb to allow students to understand the meaning of the word AND to compare and contrast what is occurring in each sentence!

HOW CAN I IMPLEMENT THIS AS A WRITING ACTIVITY IN MY CLASSROOM?

Once your students build the sentence, provide them with writing paper as an independent work task, or for your classroom Writing Center. The student can copy the sentence practicing using upper and lowercase letters and punctuation (period).

DO YOU HAVE A SELECTION OF “Task Box Fillers” THAT I CAN CHOOSE FROM?
