More details

Farmers Market Math is a functional math product that can be used multiple ways.

1. For single student task, place whole number task shopping cards inside 15 premade baskets. Place the single product cards to the side or lay them out in a way like you might see in a grocery store. Student will take one basket at a time and pull out the shopping list. Following the details on card, student will pick out the matching products that go with the shopping card making sure he/she chooses the correct weight item card.

Now using the pricing sheet and handwriting card, student will write the name of the three items they found along with how much the items cost and total. Once this step is done, shopping list card, items card, and written card will be placed back in basket. Complete these steps until all 15 baskets are filled and ready to be checked.

*For an addition to this task, you can have student count out the correct amount of currency and coin to pay for items using the money printable or your own classroom money set.

2. After completing the whole number task, fill baskets with fraction task shopping lists and work task the same as whole number task following all the same steps.

3. Use shopping lists, match items on list with single item cards for a matching task without doing the math.

4. Make as many baskets as you need as well as pricing charts to present to each student giving them each a basket with a shopping card in it. Lay single object cards either in one area of room or around room. Tell students to remove their card from their basket. Tell them to go around the room or to shopping area and find the products that match the details on their card. Once they find their items, they will go back to their seat and use the pricing guide to figure out how much their purchase cost. When they are finished they will place all items carefully in the basket and lay them aside until checked for accuracy. This idea also works well for a quick morning math task by placing a student name on the outside of each basket along with their own pricing sheet. Each day you will change out cards each morning until they complete all 30 task cards (15 whole number/15 fraction) Keep a record of all 30 attempts per student for grading using the grading sheet provided. Student or teacher will keep each students basket and pricing sheets stored for students in an area that they can access each morning. This also teaches student responsibility in keeping track and care of basket and pricing sheets to be used each morning.
Given money (coins and bills), along with visuals of items which can be purchased at the store (farmer's market), STUDENT will choose up to 5 items to purchase and present the correct amount of money to a supervising adult, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
This item is recommended for the following grade levels:

2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade, 6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade, 9th Grade, 10th Grade, 11th Grade, 12th Grade
