HOW CAN I BEST IMPLEMENT THIS ACTIVITY IN MY CLASSROOM?

For children with IEP goals to identify details within a reading passage or text, first the

child will read the story. There are pictures (most often, real-life photos) to help the student visualize the story. The reading comprehension task cards may be presented to the student in numerical order, or random order. If presented in numerical order, the student will find each correct response in sentence order. If the student has more advanced IEP goals related to this skill, the teacher may have the child complete each task card in random order. This allows the student the opportunity to look deeper into the text to locate the sentence with the correct response.


SUGGESTED IEP GOALS For Special Education Students:

Given a story to read and up to ___(# of) (up to 20) written questions with visual vocabulary support, STUDENT (child’s name) will identify details and events which have occurred in the story, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.


Given a story read aloud by an adult and up to 20 questions, STUDENT (child’s name) will identify details or events which have occurred in the story by providing a verbal or marked response, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
