WH Questions Listening Comprehension Activity for Autism and Special Education

Many of our students with autism rely heavily on visuals…and that is fantastic. However, it is also important to train them as great listeners to pick up on main details during a read aloud, or teacher led activity. Using Bingo/dauber markers as a way to actively engage each student, as he or she will “Dab it!” or “Double Dab it!” when who, what, when, why, and where questions are asked during a short paragraph read aloud by the teacher or assistant and correct responses are given. This activity teaches our special needs kids to listen for details in a special way, as each question is scaffolded to accommodate IEP goals with repetition of details and guided answers. With 100 activity sheets (JUST PRINT and GO!), your students will have enough practice to aid in mastery of listening comprehension IEP goals! As always, a data sheet is included for easy documentation AND a question/answer guide for all 100 passages.

Just PRINT and enjoy in your classroom TODAY! This activity is perfect for year round use, as well as ESY (Extended School Year) instruction.

SUGGESTED IEP Goal Alignment:

Given a paragraph containing repetitive details in order to reinforce listening comprehension skills within a text only passage (no pictures), STUDENT will demonstrate mastery by accurately responding to five teacher-led “WH” questions directly related to the passage, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 responses, by MONTH, YEAR.
