This New Year's unit would be a great addition to your classroom. This unit has a 5-page book with related activities.

This unit is designed for students with intellectual disabilities and autism but can be used in general education elementary grades or ELL.

This unit has a 5-page text in 3 different levels and an assessment/comprehension test in 4 different levels. Level 1 of the text contains pictures over text.

5 activities to teach vocabulary, fill in the blanks, answer wh-questions, write, and more. Some activities have multiple levels of support (color-coded, cut and paste, write-in).

This unit provides opportunities for repetition in the classroom, which is essential for students with intellectual disabilities, as well as the use of visuals.

Activities included: Vocabulary match and definitions, vocabulary diagram, fill in the blanks, wh-questions, resolutions writing activity, and a word search.

Given a passage about a historical or significant event at a grade-appropriate reading level, [Student] will demonstrate comprehension by correctly answering WH questions (who, what, where, when, why, and how) with 80% accuracy across 3 consecutive trials, as measured by teacher records, work samples, and observations.

When provided with a passage aligned to [Student?s grade level] Common Core Reading Standards for Informational Text (e.g., CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.[grade level].1: "Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly"), [Student] will identify key details in the text to answer "who" and "what" questions with 80% accuracy on 4 out of 5 opportunities.

Given a historical or significant event text and a graphic organizer, [Student] will identify and record "where" and "when" details from the passage, demonstrating the ability to locate explicit information as aligned with CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.[grade level].3: "Explain the relationship between events or concepts in a text."

After reading or listening to a passage, [Student] will answer "why" and "how" questions, using evidence from the text to support responses, meeting the expectations of CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.[grade level].8: "Identify the author?s purpose and key supporting details."
