More details

Having seen such great success in my classroom with all of the FOLLOWING VISUAL DIRECTIONS activities, I decided it was time to polish up our calendar skills! The activity grew in size as I was planning the actual worksheet set with Visual Mounting Board. In fact, it grew to include a daily interactive calendar with month, day, and year; days of the week and months of the year reference charts, a visual forecast worksheet to record the weather and high/low temperature for today and tomorrow, a set of 12 visual weather cards with easy to understand directions, an interactive Today/Tomorrow weather/temperature page, and FINALLY the FOLLOWING VISUAL DIRECTIONS Calendar Task with Data Sheet. The worksheet set, once mounted to the Visual Directions Board, includes highlighting the month, day, and year, and writing the numerical date and what tomorrow is. All of the tasks lead up to the student being able to complete the task independently. This activity works best for students who can read/recognize the months of the year, days of the week, and can either copy or transfer information from a website (today’s and tomorrow’s weather and temperature), and can learn to complete a multiple-step activity (great goal!). Remember, the goal of this entire Calendar Binder Task, is to encourage your students to complete a multi-step activity independently. Due to the nature of the range of complexities within our Special Education classrooms, the task might be an absolute breeze for some, while others may need assistance completing some of the steps.

This task is not recommended for Kindergarten students, or students whose cognitive skills fall within that range.
