More details

This student-illustrated social story narrative (social story) about emotions and feeling anxious in school was created for children with autism and focuses on decreasing emotions and feelings related to feeling anxious within the school setting.

MEET JESSICA JONES, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist on our Facebook page and let her know what topics you are interested in learning about!

This Social Narrative geared for addressing emotions and feelings about anxiety going to school, or while in school is intended to benefit students with autism and related learning needs. We will be bringing you NEW social narratives based upon YOUR requests! PLEASE GO TO OUR FACEBOOK PAGE AND VIEW JESSICA’S VIDEO. You may list as many topics and ideas that you feel can help you provide a smooth transition to any life changes, behavior needs in the classroom or at home, or really any topic that helps YOU as the teacher, or YOU as the parent.

What’s included with this “I Feel Anxious in School” social narrative?

· A social narrative for your students, or your own child to read with you and illustrate. This helps the child relate their own feelings and experiences. Dependent upon the child’s age and abilities, you may work one-on-one (which is my preference), or read as a whole group. This social narrative does contain some illustrations to help guide the child.

· Suggestions and ideas from Jessica Jones, our Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist on how to help your child/student feel less anxious about going to school, or while in school, and strategies families can implement at home.

Is this social narrative easy to put together?

· YES! Just print the “I Feel Anxious in School” social narrative and staple. If you are a teacher, be sure to write a note to your student on the last page. The children love to go back and read this!

I know that all of your activities include IEP goals. Do you have an IEP goal for this free social narrative?

The answer is YES! Here are TWO suggested IEP goals for you to use:

* Given a social narrative related to feelings or emotions one may feel within the school setting, STUDENT will read/listen to the social narrative, draw/color illustrations which represent how he/she may feel about school, or during an event that may occur within school, in order to decrease feelings of anxiety, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.

* Given a social narrative related to feelings or emotions one may feel within the school setting, STUDENT will read the story and use a variety of pre-taught self-coping strategies in order to decrease feelings of anxiety, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.

WISHING YOU ALL A HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL YEAR AHEAD!
