HOW WILL THIS ACTIVITY HELP MY STUDENTS WITH LEARN VERBS?
Using a real life pictures with the verb clearly depicted, your students are better able to choose the correct verb, by either eliminating the two verbs that are not shown in the picture. Children begin to have a clearer vision of what a verb is and the action that it shows.
There are three simple sentence choices using up to three words in each sentence. Most sentences use a person to show the action taking place. This allows the student to focus on reading the verb and understanding its’ meaning.
I HAVE KIDS IN MY CLASS THAT HAVEN’T REACHED THIS SKILL YET. HOW CAN I HELP THEM UNDERSTAND?
My best suggestion is to provide support and prompts by the teacher, or classroom assistant. Some children may not yet have the reading skills to sound out or read each verb. Talk about what is happening in the picture and ask the student questions. This will help your student capture the meaning of the verb.
SUGGESTED IEP GOALS For Special Education Students:
Given up to three short sentences consisting of two to three words and a real life picture depicting an action, STUDENT will choose the sentence which states the correct verb or action taking place, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
