Learning to read nouns with leveled steps is an easy strategy for new readers to visually recognize and recall nouns. Students with autism and special learning needs, thrive when visuals are embedded in daily learning and IEP goal skill development resources for reading and writing.
There are four cards per set of 98 nouns (392 picture/word or word cards total!) Introduce one picture/word card and repeat. Within a day or two, the next word is introduced. This pattern is repeated using up to 5 nouns for memorization of shapes and letter patterns for whole word readers. Suggested directions are included. You will be amazed at the results!

This is a highly effective reading strategy for any age learner who is beginning to read nouns by sight (not sounding out words). The nouns that are included are on one of the most widely used word lists for new readers. So, yes, any student who is learning to read nouns, would benefit from this reading strategy.
Developing reading skills is one of the greatest accomplishments a new reader can be proud of. Think about when you first learned how to read! By visualizing the noun and fading the picture prompt, the new reader remembers images of the word. It’s truly incredible to sit beside your student as he/she feels such an overwhelming sense of pride.
YES! Here are suggested IEP goals which align with this reading resource:
1. Given a picture noun and word, STUDENT will read/recognize up to 5 words (nouns), with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
2. Given a highlighted word (noun) and outline picture, STUDENT will read up to ___(# of) words, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
3. Given a noun and an outline (gray for fading prompt), STUDENT will read up to__(# of) words, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
4. Given a word (noun) in isolation, STUDENT will read up to 5 words with fluency, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
