This sentence comprehension for early reading skills “LEARNING BAG!” activity is an interactive, hands-on way to practice reading sentences and enhancing reading comprehension for children with autism and special learning needs (Special Education). Focusing on sight words and familiar nouns, your students can complete this activity at their desk, study carrel for independent work tasks, literacy center or one-on-one instruction. “LEARNING BAG!” sets are also perfect for tutoring or as an activity to keep a child engaged during times when they may need to sit for longer periods of time (waiting room, airplane or car ride, etc.). “LEARNING BAGS!” are easy to pack and go! It’s a very compact activity!
WILL THIS TAKE A LOT OF PREP TIME?
Oh, no! Just print and trim each BOARD (do NOT laminate the boards) and slip inside of a Zip-Loc QUART FREEZER bag. You will laminate the Response Cards and trim. A small amount of velcro is needed (9 soft-side dots/9 hard-side dots) for each “LEARNING BAG!” Use a sandwich size Zip-Loc or any other brand to store the pieces behind the board inside of the “LEARNING BAG!”
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
· “LEARNING BAG!” Boards (Each set may contains at least one board, depending on the activity. The description will indicate how many boards are in the set.) ***This set contains TWO Learning Boards with 18 Response Cards.
· RESPONSE CARDS (There are 9 Response Cards to match each Board)
· Suggested IEP Goals for Special Education students
· Print this entire activity on white card stock paper
· Guided picture directions are included
· Each BOARD and corresponding RESPONSE CARDS are numbered per set. This will make it easy for the teacher/tutor/assistant to keep the correct RESPONSE CARDS with each set.
HOW CAN “LEARNING BAGS!” HELP MY STUDENTS WITH THEIR IEP GOALS?
“LEARNING BAGS!” are easy-to-use learning materials for the classroom or on-the-go tasks. With a variety of reading and math skills already offered, or soon to be posted, student’s IEP Goals are addressed with standards based topics. Each “LEARNING BAG!” contains at least one board using pictures or pictures and words to adapt for your student’s academic levels.
SUGGESTED IEP GOALS For Special Education Students:
Given one sentence which includes previously taught/mastered sight words and one noun, STUDENT will read the sentence (independently/with prompts as needed) in order to match the picture which shows the action or object, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
