Sight Words Reading Strategies LARGE Task Cards for Kindergarten/Special Education/Autism

Kindergarten/Special Education/Autism Reading Strategies to learn and recognize sight words within text. This set contains 30 LARGE Sight Words Task Cards, Data Collection sheets, and suggested IEP Goals!

This popular series continues on with Kindergarten Pre-Primer Dolch SIGHT WORDS within text for reading comprehension LARGE Task Cards. Many of my young students were having great difficulty learning and recognizing sight words. I wanted to make it fun for them, but also where they really had to focus on reading in order to truly learn. They love “turning the pages” to read and find the picture situation that matches what they have just read. The real-life picture task cards depict the sight words in ways that young students can relate to. Using easy common nouns and items that young learners are familiar with, reading becomes less of a challenge for them. Students should be exposed to Pre-Primer sight words before beginning this activity, as it will give them a head start to this wonderful learning activity!

This set includes 30 LARGE real-life scenario task cards and data sheets to record progress towards IEP goal mastery. Some recommendations on how to use this activity are:

* FOR NON-READERS: Use as one-on-one instruction by reading each "page" aloud. Even non-readers will enjoy talking about what they see in each real-life picture.

* FOR READERS: Have student read each card aloud or silently to demonstrate comprehension. Once completed, you can check the cards for accuracy. This makes a wonderful independent work task!

* FOR LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT: Read aloud or have student read text. Ask "wh" questions related to each picture. Have students expand upon what they see by adding some personal experiences related to the pictures.

* FOR WRITING: Use the task cards as a way to find and count the sight words. Then, have students write the words (copy from a model).
